President’s Message for May 2021

Dear Fellow Rotarians & Friends

This has been a busy month for us. Incoming Club Officers attended DISTAS and several events to welcome the incoming District Governor Dolly Yeap and her board.

Rtn. Cindy Yen Eng Phang, CP Chew Ban Seng, AG Richard Ong and PP Shirin Ghadiali visited the JAMIYAH FOODBANK and met with the senior personnel to strategize how Rotary E-Club 3310 is able to assist.

With the help of Norman from Food From the Heart, we visited Spectra Secondary School. It was a fruitful meeting with the Principal Mr. Tan Teck Hock to discuss project opportunities. We will plan and discuss further how to help the students.

CP Chew Ban Seng moderated the WASH panel discussion with our distinguished panelists, namely, IPDG Jeff Yong, Rotary Club of Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei, District 3310, PDG Ganesh Bhat, Rotary Club of Dharwad Central, India, District 3170, PP Hemant Jagtap, Rotary Club of Thane Premium, India, District 3142, and President Eddie Ho, Rotary E-Club 3310, Singapore, District 3310.

Back in July 2020, Rotary E-Club 3310 participated in the RI District 3310 Covid-19 Disaster Relief Virtual Fundraising Concert to help raise funds to support GG2120434 for the purchase of medical equipment and PPE distribution for Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Sabah. This month Rotary Club of Luyang commenced distribution of the equipment.

At our monthly physical meeting Rotarian Dr. Doris Ang’s talk on “How Visual Processing Disorder Affects Learning” received numerous reviews. There was a strong interest on the topic of dyslexia and this opened up opportunities for potential projects which we will review in the upcoming months. We also inducted our newest member Nicolas Reynard, who is a chef by training. We look forward to great projects tapping on his expertise.

We received a generous donation of $5000 from World Speech Day Singapore for the Society of Starfish Singapore project. Thank you to World Speech Day for their kind contribution.

Congratulations to AG Richard Ong for achieving Major Donor Level 1. He received his mementos from PDG David Tong at FRCS House.

We would like to thank DG Rajamohan Munisamy for his support to Project Happy Meals @ SWAMI Home and his kind contributions. The residents were treated to delicious meals of nasi sambal goreng with fried chicken and Hokkien Mee.

We close off the month with excellent news. Our Rotary Global Grant GG2121887 application for WASH Safe Water Garden Project was approved. We now look towards the implementation of the project.
